Safety & Security
Residence Life staff oversee student behavior in the residence halls. Most issues are addressed on-site, but serious cases may be referred to the Dean of Students. Conduct meetings are part of our educational process, helping students reflect on their actions and impact on the community. Encourage your student to take responsibility and actively engage if they face a judicial situation.Your student's safety is a top priority. NJIT offers escorts to parking lots or across campus. For more information about safety and security visit the Department of Public Safety.

Parent/Guardian FAQs
Each floor has 1-2 Resident/Community Assistants (CAs/RAs), who play various roles: community builder, activity organizer, resource, peer counselor, policy enforcer, and friend. They are upperclass students chosen for their skills and abilities to support and advise fellow students. CAs/RAs receive extensive training throughout the year to refine their skills.
The Assistant Director of Residence Life, Assistant Director of Greek Village, and Area/Resident Coordinators (AC/RCs) are full-time professional staff members who live and work in the residence halls. They manage day-to-day operations and oversee the selection, training, and supervision of Resident/Community Assistants (CAs/RAs). Each building supervisor has an office located within their respective building.
Each resident may have up to 3 guests at a time. Guests must be signed in at the front desk and present a valid ID. Make sure to prearrange your visit with your student, as they will need to sign you in. The desk attendant cannot allow any visitors into the building without proper sign-in by a host.
Room changes must be approved by the Associate Director of Residence Life and typically occur during scheduled periods. Information about these periods will be shared with your student. If your student needs to request a room change outside of these times, they should speak with their building supervisor. If there are roommate conflicts, encourage your student to communicate with their roommate and complete a roommate agreement. Resident Assistants are also available to assist with this process.
